RM is denied approval to proceed with Geotubes to protect Delta. Told to wait.

Previously it was reported that the RM had received approval to place Geotubes to protect Delta. Turns out they had received verbal approval and were awaiting written approval.

This morning the RM was informed by the Province that they can not proceed. Below is a copy of the official communication received by the RM when approval was withheld, and the RM directed to wait.

The Province is really focused on the Assiniboine River at the moment, and will correspond a strategy with local authorities around Lake Manitoba once the threat on the Assiniboine diminishes. Local authorities are asked
to be patient to hear what that strategy is.

The DBA executive on Saturday by emergency resolution had formally requested Geotubes be erected based on the 2011 Flood experience to provide protection from wind tide and wave damage risk.

Yes Jack – but it was the Winnipeg Free Press that quoted the Reeve of St. Laurent saying they were getting Geotubes(check out: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/were-in-for-it-again-any-way-you-look-at-it-265877831.html).

Similarly, it was reported that the RM of St Laurent had the go ahead for geotubes which is not true.
